Daffodil Altan is an Emmy-nominated journalist and documentary film producer who joined the IRP on Nov. 1. She produced, with IRP’s Andrés Cediel, the Frontline/Univision documentary “Rape on the Night Shift,”part of a multi-platform investigation into the sexual assault of female janitors that included Frontline, Univision, The Center for Investigative Reporting and KQED (San Francisco’s NPR station). Previously she was a producer at the Center for Investigative Reporting, where her reporting on teen solitary confinement at Rikers Island was part of a wave of renewed coverage that led to reforms for teens at the New York City jail. Her print, radio and documentary work have appeared on Frontline, NBC, Telemundo, Univision and the PBS NewsHour, and in the Los Angeles Times, Mother Jones and the OC Weekly (where she was a staff writer), among others. Daffodil has received awards for her work from the Society of Professional Journalists, The San Francisco International Film Festival, the Los Angeles Press Club and the Imagen Foundation. She is a graduate of UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism and the mother of a pre-schooler.
